This amazing oil painting technique was the one developed in the Early Renaissance, likely by Jan Van Eyke. It was the run-away favourite painting method all through the Renaissance and through all the following ages, until Impressionism. In this program you will learn to achieve that wonderful lost “magic” of glaze oil colour. Going step by step, you will build layers to establish basic values, forms and colours and then start painting processes that build and manipulate colour qualities as well as refine the values and forms. By this unique method, a luminous suspension of particulates is created, providing opportunity of light refraction within the painted surface. It produces rich, luminous colour, incredible depth and opportunity for amazing implied detail. Note: it is of great benefit to students to enroll in "The Nitty Gritty on Colour", Kathy Bailey's technical applied colour theory course, before or at the same time as this course (It is offered here at VAM). If you are taking Glaze Oil Painting for the first time from Kathy, you will need to continue with one more workshop series after this one in order to complete a painting (the painting needs to dry at least seven to ten times in the process).
